Mother Teresa Memorial Day celebrated with deep respect and solemnity in New York, USA

Progga News Desk, NY, USA:

The Memorial Day of the revered saint and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Saint Mother Teresa—an eternal symbol of purity, service, and love for humanity—was celebrated in New York with deep reverence and solemn religious devotion. On Saturday, September 6, 2025, the immigrant Christian community in Queens gathered at the Queen of Angels Church in Sunnyside for a daylong series of commemorative programs.

The celebration began with a candlelight procession carrying a statue of Mother Teresa from the church premises. The statue, gifted by Mrs. Moni and Ramesh Gomez, was carried by parish readers and church leaders, led by Father Minto Gervas Rosario. The statue was placed at the church altar, where floral wreaths and incense offerings were presented before Mother Teresa’s portrait, marking the formal start of prayers and the Holy Eucharist.

The choir’s melodious hymns and the solemnity of the procession created a uniquely spiritual atmosphere. In his homily, Father Minto Gervas Rosario reflected on Mother Teresa’s wisdom, compassion, and life of service, urging all present to follow in her footsteps.

The program concluded with a special Mass and concluding hymns. Among the attendees was Mr. Gabriel Tapas Gomez, President of the Probashi Bengali Christian Association Inc., USA. He extended heartfelt gratitude to Father Rosario, the participants, the organizing committee, and all well-wishers, offering prayers for the well-being of the entire community.

A special contribution came from the association’s Vice President, Mrs. Chitra Rosario, who conducted the choir. The choir featured Maria, Chandra, Roslin, Ruma, Shyamoli, and Magdalin, with tabla accompaniment by Winston Quea. Technical support for the musical performance was provided by Roslin and her family, assisted by Suman Anthony, with initiative from Lenny Mithu.

Members of the association’s executive committee present at the event included: Mr. Gabriel Tapas Gomez (President), Chitra Rosario (Vice President), Matthias Rosario (General Secretary), Vincent Shyaml Gomez (Treasurer), Chandra Coraiya (Organizing Secretary), Roni Gomez (Joint Sports Secretary), Mita Priscilla Gomez (Joint Sports Secretary).

Throughout the event, the love, respect, and gratitude of the immigrant Christian community for Mother Teresa shone brightly. This celebration of the life of the saint who spread the light of humanity rekindled a shared inspiration in the hearts of the faithful—reminding all that true religion lies in service to humanity.
