Human Support Corporation to Host 21st Free Flu Vaccination Drive in Jackson Heights, Continuing 14-Year Community Health Initiative
Progga News Desk | Jackson Heights, New York:
Human Support Corporation, a human rights and volunteer organization dedicated to community service, will host its 21st free vaccination drive on Sunday, October 25, offering seasonal influenza (flu) vaccines to help protect local residents and raise awareness about preventive health care. The initiative marks the organization’s 14th consecutive year of providing free flu vaccinations to the community.
The vaccination event will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at 37-22 73rd Street, Second Floor, Suite 2A, Jackson Heights, New York.
The program is sponsored by Walgreens Pharmacy. Cortiza Shah, a Walgreens Pharmacy manager and pharmacist, will be present to administer the vaccines.
Raising Awareness About Seasonal Flu
Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It primarily affects the nose, throat, and lungs and can range from mild illness to serious complications, particularly among older adults, young children, and people with certain underlying health conditions.
Common flu symptoms include sudden fever, runny nose, sore throat, body aches, muscle pain, headaches, dry cough, extreme fatigue, and weakness. Children may also experience vomiting or diarrhea.
The virus can spread through respiratory particles released when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. Transmission may also occur when a person touches a contaminated surface and then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth.
Health officials recommend annual flu vaccination as an important measure to reduce the risk of influenza and its potentially serious complications. Practicing good hand hygiene and taking appropriate precautions when sick can also help limit the spread of infection.
Expanding Access to Preventive Health Care
According to the organization, the annual vaccination initiative is particularly important for people who do not have health insurance and may face financial barriers to accessing preventive health services.
While many insured individuals can obtain flu vaccinations through their primary care providers or local pharmacies, Human Support Corporation’s free vaccination program seeks to make this important service more accessible to members of the community.
For the past 14 consecutive years, the organization has continued this effort under its guiding motto, Humans for Humans, emphasizing compassion, service, and the belief that everyone deserves access to essential health information and preventive care.
Beyond administering vaccines, the annual program serves as an opportunity to educate residents about seasonal influenza, its symptoms, how it spreads, and the importance of taking preventive measures before and during flu season.
Community Leaders Call for Broad Participation
Human Support Corporation President Mohammed Solaiman Ali and General Secretary Babu Tapan Kumar Sen have invited journalists, social workers, poets, writers, artists, professionals, political leaders, and representatives of local community organizations to support the initiative.
The organization is seeking the community’s cooperation in publicizing the event, encouraging participation, and spreading accurate information about flu prevention and vaccination.
The organizers also expressed their sincere appreciation to journalists who have covered the organization’s previous community service initiatives and helped raise awareness among the Bangladeshi American and broader immigrant communities.
They emphasized that media coverage and community partnerships play an important role in ensuring that vital health information reaches those who need it most.
A Continuing Commitment to Community Service
For Human Support Corporation, the annual free vaccination drive represents more than a single health event. It reflects a long-standing commitment to humanitarian service, public health awareness, and support for individuals who may otherwise have difficulty accessing preventive care.
The organization hopes that residents will take advantage of the free vaccination opportunity, share information about the program with family members and friends, and encourage others to remain informed about seasonal flu prevention.
Through this continuing initiative, Human Support Corporation aims to strengthen community health awareness and reinforce the importance of compassion, cooperation, and collective responsibility.
