Bangladesh Independence Day Recognized at New York State Legislature: A Proud Celebration in Albany Resolution adopted with resounding applause; a powerful display of unity and pride among Bangladeshi Americans

In a historic and proud moment for the Bangladeshi diaspora, Bangladesh’s Independence Day was officially recognized at the New York State Capitol on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. The occasion was marked by a festive and dignified celebration attended by community leaders and members.
A special resolution honoring Bangladesh’s Independence Day was introduced by Jennifer Rajkumar on behalf of eight Assembly Members and State Senators. The resolution was adopted unanimously, drawing strong applause from those present—an acknowledgment widely seen as a significant milestone for Bangladeshi Americans.
The resolution was co-signed by Assembly Members Karines Reyes, Jennifer Rajkumar, David Weprin, Grace Lee, Nader Sayegh, along with State Senators John Liu and Nathalia Fernandez.
The event was attended by prominent members of the Bangladeshi community, led by the leadership of Bangladesh Society Inc., including Trustee Board Chairman Shah Newaz, President Ataur Rahman Selim, and General Secretary Mohammad Ali. Nearly fifty members of the Bangladeshi diaspora, along with leaders from various social, cultural, and professional organizations, joined the celebration.
Notable attendees included community figures such as Shah J. Chowdhury, CEO of Shah J Group; Hosneara Chowdhury; former footballer Abu Zubayer Dara; Jalalabad Association President Badrul Khan; Senior Vice President Mohiuddin Dewan; Community Board Member Amin Mehdi; and Lion Ahsan Habib, Kazi Maryam ,among others.
Community leaders expressed deep appreciation for the warm hospitality and support extended by Jennifer Rajkumar. They emphasized that the event was more than ceremonial—it was a meaningful recognition of Bangladesh’s sovereignty and history on an important institutional platform in the United States.
Leaders further noted that such initiatives strengthen unity, identity, and patriotism among Bangladeshi Americans. They also extended sincere thanks to Bangladesh Society Inc. for organizing and supporting the successful event.
