Urgent Appeal for Justice and Protection of Hindus in Bangladesh by Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, USA
Progga News Desk, NY,USA:
Today, the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, USA, organized a peaceful protest in front of the Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York, USA. The demonstration saw the participation of over 45 individuals, including women and children, who gathered to raise their voices against the ongoing persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh. The protest began at 12 noon and was conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.
The primary demand of the protest was the immediate release of Chinmoy Krishna Das Provu, who has been wrongfully imprisoned under the so-called "Sedition Act" since November 25, 2024, along with 49 other young Hindu leaders. The protesters emphasized that these arrests are part of a broader campaign of ethnic cleansing and religious persecution in Bangladesh.
The procession was led by Prof. Chandan Sarkar, along with prominent community leaders including Ramesh Devnath, Srabanty Ray, Kingshuk Paul, Barun Pal (Treasurer), Shuly Shikdar, Mittunjoy Mojumder, Tithi Das, Shubu Prasad Mitra, Mukta Dutta, Litan Das, Jay Kumar Saha, Rajib Das, Mithun Das, Sudipta Das, and others. Each speaker addressed the crowd, highlighting the atrocities committed against Hindus in Bangladesh. They drew a painful parallel between the current regime and the actions of Yahya Khan in 1971, stating that Yunus Mohammed’s government is replicating the same brutal tactics to systematically target and eliminate Hindus.
The speakers provided shocking statistics on the violence faced by Hindus in Bangladesh:
2,547 incidents of persecution against Hindus.
47 cases of rape.
53 Hindu teachers forcibly dismissed from their jobs.
27 women subjected to gang rape.
147 Hindu temples demolished.
Numerous cases of abduction and rape of Hindu women.
No single day where Hindus feel safe in Bangladesh.
In September 2025, in Khagrachari, three indigenous people were tortured and killed by settlers and the army. The speakers condemned the Bangladeshi Army’s involvement in these atrocities, stating that while the army was once respected, individuals like Waqaruzzaman Zaman have tarnished its dignity by forcibly abducting and killing innocent Hindus in collaboration with the police.
After the protest, a signed memorandum was submitted to the Consulate General’s office. Two representatives from the Consulate received the letter, which outlined the demands and concerns of the protesters.
The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, USA, concluded the protest with a clear and urgent call:
Chinmoy Krishna Das Provu and the 49 Hindu leaders must be released immediately.
The Bangladeshi government must stop the atrocities against Hindus and ensure their safety and rights.
We urge the international community, human rights organizations, and global leaders to take immediate action to halt the ethnic cleansing and persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh.
We request your office to convey our concerns to the highest authorities in Bangladesh and seek immediate intervention to address these grave human rights violations.
Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. We look forward to your prompt response and action.
