Press Release: Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, USA Condemns Escalating Violence and False Propaganda Against ISKCON and Hindu Community in Bangladesh
Progga News, New York, USA – October 31, 2025:
The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, USA, expresses deep concern and strong condemnation over the recent rise in violence, false propaganda, and systematic persecution targeting ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) devotees and the broader Hindu community in Bangladesh.
Over the past weeks, reports have emerged of coordinated attacks, killings, destruction of temples, and vandalism of homes belonging to minority communities, fueled by baseless misinformation and communal incitement. These incidents, allegedly triggered by fabricated narratives and extremist provocation, pose a serious threat to religious harmony and human rights in Bangladesh.
Key Issues of Concern:
1.False Abduction Allegation: A fabricated story surrounding the alleged abduction of Mufti Mohammad Mohibullah Minajee, the Khatib of Tongi’s T&T Colony Jame Mosque, was intentionally spread to incite hatred against the Hindu and ISKCON communities. Both social and mainstream media played a role in amplifying this falsehood, despite law enforcement later debunking the claims.
2.Targeted Violence: Numerous incidents of physical attacks, killings, and the destruction of temples and homes have been reported in multiple districts. These cowardly acts of violence, clearly rooted in communal hostility, constitute gross violations of human rights and threaten the safety of minority citizens in Bangladesh.
3.Government Inaction: The silence and apparent inaction from government authorities and law enforcement agencies have heightened fear among minority communities. Lack of timely intervention and security measures has emboldened extremist elements.
4.Communal Conspiracy: The ongoing violence and propaganda are seemingly part of a broader conspiracy to dismantle Bangladesh’s longstanding tradition of religious coexistence, with the intent of destabilizing the social equilibrium and targeting minorities, especially during politically sensitive periods.
Demands and Calls to Action:
1.We commend the police and media for exposing the false abduction narrative involving Mufti Mohibullah Minajee. We urge immediate arrest and prosecution of all individuals involved in orchestrating this malicious propaganda.
2.We call for the immediate arrest of those who have publicly issued threats—including calls to murder 200 ISKCON members—following the staged abduction claim.
3.We strongly urge the Government of Bangladesh to curb pre-election communal violence, which appears strategically aimed at terrorizing minority communities and driving them out of the country.
4.We demand urgent and concrete measures from the government to stop all acts of violence, harassment, and propaganda targeting ISKCON and Hindu communities.
5.We appeal to the government, civil society, and human rights activists in Bangladesh to act decisively to uphold communal harmony and protect vulnerable minority groups.
6.We call upon the international community, including global human rights organizations, to monitor the situation closely and support efforts to ensure the safety and dignity of all religious minorities in Bangladesh.
