Community Leaders Back Andrew Coumo for Nick Mayor: Muslim Community Expresses Concern Over Zohraan Mamdani’s Support for Legalizing Sex Work
Progga News Desk:
At a campaign rally in support of Andrew Cuomo, speakers emphasized the urgent need to protect religious harmony and shared social values in New York City. They voiced serious concern over the fact that Zohran Mamdani has expressed support for legalizing sex work in his campaign platform — a stance they say contradicts Islamic values and offends faith-based communities.
“Islam does not support prostitution or same-sex relations in any form,” said one speaker. “By taking a public position to legalize these immoral and illegal activities, Zohran Mamdani is threatening the religious and moral fabric of our city.”
Speakers also highlighted that New York City has long been a place where Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, and people of other faiths live together peacefully. “This harmony cannot be allowed to be destroyed,” they warned, noting that support for Mamdani among Muslim voters is steadily declining as the election approaches.
The rally was held on October 19 at the Gujarati Society Party Hall in Fresh Meadows. It was chaired by community leader Anil Varsa and attended by independent mayoral candidate and former governor Andrew Cuomo as the chief guest.
He added, “To stabilize the economy and maintain law and order, we need steady leadership. If I become mayor, I will make sure South Asians and other immigrant communities are part of my administration. Bangladeshi Americans will also hold important positions.”
Among others, Democratic Party District Leader Dr. Dilip Nath, Community Board member Fahad Solaiman, Haris Patel, Faisal Aziz, Amjad Hossain Selim, Bidyut Sarkar, Bhabotosh Mitra, and Md. Parvez spoke at the event. Leaders from the Gujarati and Bangladeshi communities were also present.
Andrew Cuomo told the audience that New York City is currently facing multiple challenges — including public safety concerns, housing issues, educational setbacks, and a mental health crisis. “If elected, I will restore order to this city,” he promised. Cuomo also pledged to restore mayoral control of public schools, expand the Gifted and Talented Program, and double the number of specialized high schools.
Dr. Dilip Nath said, “With Andrew Cuomo as mayor, we can build a more civilized and prosperous New York.”
Fahad Solaiman added, “Zohran Mamdani has served as a State Assemblyman for four years, but he has never publicly embraced his Muslim identity. Now, during the election season, he is trying to appeal to the community for votes.”
The New York City mayoral election will take place on November 4. Andrew Cuomo is running as an independent candidate, while Zohran Mamdani is campaigning on a progressive platform. Political analysts say that immigrant and faith-based communities are expected to play a decisive role in the outcome of this election.
