Staff Correspondent:
Moumita Acharjee, a student at Hillcrest High School in Queens, New York, has been appointed as an official ambassador for the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).
In her new role, Moumita will help build awareness about the organization and provide guidance to current and prospective members based on her own experiences. Serving as a trusted source of knowledge and inspiration for her peers, the ambassadorship presents a significant opportunity for her to grow as a leader while making a tangible impact in her community.
This appointment follows her earlier recognition by the NSHSS with a prestigious national academic honor. The US-based organization is renowned for honoring outstanding high school students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a strong commitment to community service.
Following the announcement, NSHSS President Nainika Manthena congratulated Moumita on her new role. “As you begin your journey as an NSHSS Ambassador, we’re excited for you to hear directly from our student leaders,” Manthena said.
“Your peers on the Ambassador Leadership Council are here to support, inspire, and guide you. This is just the beginning, so get ready for a whole lot of fun and growth. You will grow as both a leader and a person,” she said.
NSHSS Co-Vice President Antonio Pizza also welcomed Moumita, adding, “This role offers unique opportunities for you and makes NSHSS so special. Keep working hard and making a difference.”
Founded in 2002 by James W. Lewis and Claes Nobel—a member of the family that established the Nobel Prize—NSHSS aims to recognize and nurture high-achieving students. The organization currently serves more than two million members across over 170 countries.
Moumita’s ambassadorship has been celebrated as a proud achievement for her school and the local community in Queens, highlighting the accomplishments of young scholars striving for excellence.
Moumita is the daughter of Deepak Kumar Acharjee, a prominent Bangladeshi journalist and the editor and publisher of the national daily, The South Asian Times. The family currently resides in New York.
