Moumita Acharya Earns Prestigious U.S. National Academic Honor

Moumita Acharya, a student at Hillcrest High School in Queens, New York, has earned a prestigious national academic recognition in the United States. She has been selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS), a distinguished academic honor society.

According to a press release issued on Monday (March 23, 2026) from Atlanta, the organization recognized Moumita for her outstanding academic achievements, leadership qualities, and active involvement in community service.

NSHSS Co-Founder and President James W. Lewis praised her accomplishment, stating, “Moumita Acharya’s dedication, hard work, and commitment to academic excellence are truly commendable. We are proud to welcome her into our prestigious community.”

He further noted that NSHSS is a global network connecting some of the most talented students worldwide, adding, “This community represents one of our greatest hopes for the future.”

The organization also highlighted that NSHSS members receive lifetime membership and gain access to a wide range of opportunities to support their academic and professional growth. These include scholarships, internships, international study programs, and leadership development initiatives.

Founded in 2002 by James W. Lewis and Claes Nobel, NSHSS now serves more than two million members across over 170 countries.

Moumita’s achievement has been widely recognized within the local community as a source of pride and inspiration.

Her father, Deepak Kumar Acharya, is a well-known journalist from Bangladesh and serves as the Editor and Publisher of the national English-language daily The South Asian Times.
