State of Emergency Declared in New York City as Blizzard Triggers Travel Ban Starting 9 PM

Progga News Desk:
A State of Emergency has been declared in New York City due to severe blizzard conditions and hazardous weather. New York City Emergency Management (NYCEM) announced in an emergency alert that Mayor Mamdani has officially issued the order.

According to the announcement, a citywide Travel Ban went into effect at 9:00 PM and will remain in place until 12:00 PM on February 23.

Under the order, all nonessential vehicles are prohibited from operating on New York City roads during this period. Only vehicles engaged in essential and emergency services—including medical personnel, public safety workers, and other critical operations—are permitted to travel.

Officials warned that heavy snowfall combined with strong winds could create extremely dangerous road conditions. The restrictions were implemented to protect public safety and to allow emergency crews to operate effectively.

City authorities are urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel and to remain indoors until conditions improve.

For additional information, residents are encouraged to visit the city’s official website or call 311 for updates.

City officials reiterated that the safety of residents remains their highest priority.
