“How Are You All?” NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani Greets High School Students in Fluent Bengali

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has drawn widespread attention after addressing the city’s high school students in fluent Bengali while announcing more than 2,000 free Broadway tickets for young New Yorkers.
In a video shared on social media, Mayor Mamdani directly addressed high school students in Bengali, saying, “High school students of New York City, how are you all?”
The mayor did not stop at a Bengali greeting. He went on to explain the Broadway ticket program in Bengali and encouraged eligible students to enter the lottery. His fluent and natural Bengali delivery has generated considerable interest among New York’s Bengali-speaking and broader South Asian communities.
Under the program, more than 2,000 free Broadway tickets are being made available through a lottery for students at selected New York City high schools. The initiative aims to make Broadway theater more accessible to young people, particularly students and families who may not otherwise be able to afford Broadway tickets.
The lottery is being conducted with support from the Theatre Development Fund (TDF). Selected students will have the opportunity to attend seven Broadway shows, with each winner eligible to receive up to two tickets.
In his Bengali-language message, Mayor Mamdani explained that New York City is providing more than 2,000 free tickets for Broadway performances. He urged students to register for the lottery before the deadline through the designated website.
The mayor also highlighted an additional benefit for participants. Students who enter the lottery will have the opportunity to receive a free two-month membership to the Theatre Development Fund.
At the end of the video, Mayor Mamdani addressed the students in a warm and friendly tone, saying, “Okay, then, I’ll see you at the show.”
The video was shared through the mayor’s social media channels and featured messages in Bengali, Mandarin, Spanish and English. The multilingual outreach reflects the cultural and linguistic diversity of New York City and the administration’s effort to communicate directly with different communities.
Mamdani’s fluent Bengali, in particular, has attracted significant attention among New York’s large Bangladeshi-American and Bengali-speaking communities. The combination of free access to Broadway for high school students and the mayor’s direct outreach in Bengali has sparked strong interest on social media.
